North Halmahera - Search on rescue operation to find three missing hikers, including two Singaporean nationals at the slope of Mount Dukono, in North Halmahera, in Indonesia's North Maluku on Saturday, 9 May 2026 is ongoing, one body was found, but eruption from the volcano continued, affected the efforts.

The body of an Indonesian was found about 50 meter near the crater of Mt. Dukono on  Saturday afternoon, while two points were spotted by rescuers, likely are the locations of two Singaporean nationals, Head North Halmahera Regency's Disaster Mitigation Office (BPBD) Hentje Hetharia said. 

He further explained that volcanic materials from Dukono with various thickness have hampered the evacuation process. On Saturday, the volcano mountain spew about 3,000 meter high column of ashes to the sky.

Heavy rains have poured out in the slope of the mountain that halt rescuers from continuing their search activities.

Rescuers described the body of the victim, found on Saturday was half covered by volcanic materials and only leg to hips revealed in the surface when they spotted it. The body was taken to Tobelo General Hospital.

The search and rescue operation on Saturday was ended in the evening and will resume on Sunday morning.***
