Jakarta - A trash landslide at Zone 4 of Bantargebang Landfill in Bekasi Municipality, near Jakarta on Sunday, 8 March 2026 has killed four people and five others are reported missing, Jakarta's Search and Rescue (SAR) Office said on Monday, 9 March 2026.

Bantargebang Landfill received 7,500 to 7,800 tons of garbages daily  mostly from Jakarta. It's operated by Jakarta Government.

"Total (victim) is 13 - four of them were found safely, four died and the rest of five, as of reports received by police, five people have yet returned home," said Head of Operation Unit of Jakarta SAR Office Akhmad Rizikansyah on Monday, 9 March 2026.

No official information provided on the cause of the landslide, however, Jakarta and surroundings experienced torrential rains in recent days, including on Sunday.


SAR operation is ongoing, while those were killed in the trash landslide including two local shop owners and two dump truck drivers.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung on Monday visited the disaster scene to see the SAR operation in which over 330 people were involved in.***
