Bannu — Two roadside bombs killed at least seven people and wounded three others in Pakistan's Bannu District on Saturday,20 June 2026 after attackers detonated a remote-controlled IED on a passenger vehicle and a second device as rescuers arrived to help the wounded, police said.

Bannu District Police Officer Yasir Afridi said a private pick-up truck carrying passengers was targeted with a remote-controlled IED in the Marka Bera area, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, which borders Afghanistan.

The vehicle was travelling from Hathi Khel Village to Bannu City when the first blast struck, killing five people at the scene.

"The injured were being transported to hospital in a car for emergency treatment when a second IED exploded," Afridi said, adding that three people were wounded in the follow-up blast.

No group had claimed responsibility for those blasts as of Saturday. Authorities have launched an investigation, and security forces sealed off the area as they worked to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attacks and said the government would bring those responsible to justice.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi also condemned the attack and ordered a detailed report, instructing relevant authorities to ensure that the injured receive the best possible medical treatment.

"The provincial government will not leave the affected families alone in this time of grief," he said.
