Washington DC - United States President Donald Trump, on Thursday 7 May 2026, confidently predicted the war with Iran would quickly end after he claimed "had a good talks over the last 24 hours" over a peace deal with Iran.

Meanwhile, Tehran has said it has been  reviewing the proposal from the White House.

Eventhough the negotiation leaves unresolved the US demand for Iran to suspend its nuclear programme and reopen the Hormuz Strait.

US media outlet Axios quoted US officials on the negotiation, saying that they are "not far, but there is no deal yet", and expectinf a swift response from Tehran in the next 48 hours.

The same report describes that other US officials are more skeptical about a deal.

Conversely, Iranian Parliamentary National Security Spokesperson Ibrahim Rezaei rejected the claims and described the proposal as more than "an American wish list rather than reality."

According to the Iranian local news agency Tasnim, a source close to the process said that Tehran has not yet issued an official response to the latest US proposal, indicating that some elements in the draft is “unacceptable” for the Iranian government and dismissing narratives, suggesting that an agreement is close.

Iranian officials also emphasized that the current talks are focused solely on ending the war, and denying any attempts to expand negotiation, including long-term nuclear and strategic concessions. ***
