Jakarta - Christians and majority muslims around the globe, including in Indonesia, started fasting period with religious rituals on Wednesday, 18 February 2026.

Christians mark pre-Easter fasting period with Ash Wednesday services, in which the lent will end at Easter Friday in April, while most muslims started Ramadan fasting month by performing tarawih prayers or evening mass prayers.

Ramadan fasting is obligatory for muslims. The 30-day fasting will end with Eid al-Fitr celebrations.

A day earlier, people across the globe just celebrate Chinese New Year or Imlek, the beginning of Horse Year in Lunar Calendar.
