Jakarta - An initial report that's received by Directorate General of Civil Aviation at the Transport Ministry said a has died after a light passenger aircraft, operated by Indonesia's AMA Airline Services, lading in Papua Highland on Thursday, 2 July 2026.

There are information spread on social media saying the aircraft was burnt, however the ministry has not confirmed the information yet. The aircraft with registered number PK-RCY is a bush plane.

"Based on an initial information, received from Wamena Airport authority, the aircraft departed from Wamena Airport at 6.30 a.m. eastern Indonesia time, carrying one pilot and seven passengers. The aircraft was reported had landed at Balinggama Airport at 6.46 a.m. eastern Indonesia time," Director General for Civil Aviation at the Transport Ministry Lukman F. Laisa said.

He said no information about disrupted security condition before and after the aircraft landing has been received at this moment.

"Directorate General Civil Aviation has received initial report from Head of Wamena Airport Operator that is sating that the pilot, under the name of Nicholas F. Gosselin has died," Director Lukman said, adding that the cause of the death has not known yet.

Communication with pilot was cut off after the airplane landing at Balinggama Airport. The fate of seven passengers remain unclear.
