Jakarta - Nadien Anwar Makarim, co-founder of Indonesia's rail-hailing platform and tech giant GoJek who turned into education, cultural, research and technology minister from 2019 to 2024 under Present Joko "Jokowi" Widodo administration, was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment and 1 billion rupiah or about US$55,781 fine by a panel of judges at Jakarta Corruption Court on Tuesday, 30 June 2026.
The decision was taken by five judges - Sunoco, Ni Radek Susantiani, Mardiantos, Andi Saputra, and Purwanto S. Abdullah as the presiding judge - with dissenting opinion from Judge Andi Saputra who said Nadiem was not guilty and must be freed.
Nadiem, according to the decision was found guilty in second degree graft indictment, which the former CEO GoJek had participated together with others convicts committing graft in procurement of Chromebook units for digitalized education program for elementary and junior high school students, especially in the underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost areas, between 2019 and 2022 by the Education, Cultural, Research and Technology Ministry.
Besides, prison term and fine, the court also sentenced Nadiem to pay alimony of about 809.5 billion rupiah of the state loss within one month and another month of extension, otherwise get additional sentence of five days if his assets insufficient to the amount of money.

"Today we have a big question to our legal system whether the truth, justice is still has its meaning. Today, it's answered, all of court facts were ignored. I was sentenced of 10-year plus five years, so 15 years (of imprisonment," Nadiem said after the trial.
Nadiem's legal team will appeal to the higher court, while state prosecutor team accepted the verdict.
Dodi Abdulkadir, one of Nadeem's lawyers said there are indications that obstruction of justice have occurred as many evidences from defendant were ignored by judges.
After reading the sentence, judges left the court room without giving both defendant and his legal team as well as the state prosecutors to response the verdict.***
